BELLY DANCE RECITAL

 "Saturday Time Out for Parents"
STOP Trips take place one Saturday a month and are socially, physically and educationally beneficial field trips. Cost: $3 per person with lunch provided. *Feel free to send souvenir money for trips*

You must RSVP on the designated day a week prior to the trip by phone or email. Reservations are taken in the order received. Only one message is required. Space is limited. Please send your reservation to only: 407-571-8814 or

IMPORTANT NOTE:After all reservations are received on Friday, October 1, 2010, we will conduct a random drawing to select the participants attending. Participants will be notified on Monday, October 4 if they were or were not selected.
 
As a reminder, this is not the normal procedure for the STOP trips, but was designed to handle the high interest level of this particular trip.

BALLROOM DANCING
Register between September 13 - October 1 
The Central Florida Chapter of USA Dance will be teaching an 8-week workshop on Sundays from 1:30-2:30pm at Lake Brantley South (Gymnasium across the street from LBHS). Open to previous and new members.

NIGHTBIRD DANCES
 Friday, October 22 -  Halloween Bash
Themed dances are held one Friday per month from 7-9pm. Refreshments are provided. Cost is $2 per participant and $1 per companion/family member/guest.

Prizes awarded for dance contest winners, costume contest winners & birthdays! If you have a group home or a large party, please call in advance and we will reserve your group a table(s).
 
NEW DANCES ON THE OTHER SIDE OF TOWN!
The Oviedo-Winter Springs Optimist Club and Oviedo Parks and Recreation now offer dancers on alternate evenings. Please

THURSDAY NIGHT OUT 
 Westmonte Park from 7:30-8:30pm
"Thursday Night Outs" are held on Thursday evenings, excluding the 1st Thursday of the month. They are designed to allow participants to get together and just have some fun! Events are held at Westmonte Park and time has changed to 7:30-8:30pm. Cost: $1.00 with refreshments.   *Please let us know if you will be attending the cooking class.

BOWLING PRACTICES
Every Monday Excluding Holidays 
Practice is held every Monday, excluding holidays, at the Altamonte AMF Lanes from 3-5pm. Cost will increase to $2 per game beginning on June 21, 2010. Scores are recorded throughout the year and trophies are awarded at the Banquet with participant's high score.

Special Olympics Bowling:
Congratulations to all the bowlers who competed at Area Games on September 25. Drawings for State Games will take place in the next week or two. Good Luck! 
BELLY DANCING

SP- Belly Recital 09Our Special Needs Belly Dancers & family members meet the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month to exercise & prepare for performances. Location has been changed to Eastmonte Park from 6:30-7:30pm. Cost: $1.00/person. (Practice held once a month during Jan/Feb and Jun/July)

SPARKLERS CHEERLEADING

 SP- Sparklers Logo
The Altamonte Sparklers are a group of more than 60 male and female cheerleaders with special needs who have been training and competing since 2005. Together the group has attended numerous community events and cheerleading competitions. They are run by the support of the City of Altamonte Springs, volunteer coaches, and generous donors. The Altamonte Sparklers are more than just a cheerleading squad; they are a group of inspirational athletes who have proven that anything is possible- if given the chance!
 
Athlete Registration
Current and new athletes are invited to our Season Six Registration Meeting on Sunday, October 3, 2010 between 3:30pm-5:30pm at Lake Brantely South Gym, 1010 Sand Lake Road. Please contact Nin for more information prior to attending.
(Gymnasium is located across the street from LBHS. Park at Forest City Elementary and follow the side walk passed the bus loop and towards the back portables, field and gym).  
             
Volunteer Coach Opportunities
Volunteer Coaches are needed to help run our upcoming season. Volunteers help choreograph, teach, and perform dance routines, skills and cheers for athletes with special needs. Coaches may choose which team to volunteer with, or assist with both. Sign up ASAP.
Spirit Team: October 2010 thru early December 2010
Competition Teams: February 2010 thru April 2011 
 
Volunteer Coach Requirements:
  • Attend practices on Sundays (Time commitment of 2-3 hours a week)
  • Ages 16 and up
  • No cheerleading experience necessary but is preferred
  • Required to complete an Affidavit of Good Moral Character; an Authorization for Criminal History Check; and a Level 2 nationally fingerprint-based records check
  • Community service hours are granted 

Sponsorship Opportunities
Purchasing uniforms and equipment for more than 60 athletes and traveling to competitions across the state of Florida is not easy. Without the financial help of many generous individuals and organizations, the Altamonte Sparklers would not be able to continue.

The 25th Annual Eddie Rose Appreciation Night was held on Thursday, September 9, 2010. Many volunteers gathered for a beautiful evening of food, entertainment and awards.
 
We sincerly appreciate all of our volunteer's time and commitement, but we would like to congratulate the following award nominees and award winners.

REMEMBERING JOHNATHAN MIGLIO
June 23, 1993 - September 6, 2010
Johnathan Miglio, age 17, of Lake Mary, FL passed away Monday, September 6, 2010. He was born June 23, 1993 in Hershey, PA to Ross and Karen Watson Miglio. 
 
Johnathan had a smile that could light up a room and a personality and laugh that was infectious. He made people realize that life was great and a gift from God.

SPECIAL COMMUNITY SERVICES' NEW OFFICE

The Special Community Services' office has been moved to a new building. It is still located at Eastmonte Park, but can be found in the building to the right of the park's entrance gate.
 
Vinnie, Nin and Fran are still getting settled into their new work place.

Please make sure to turn in your 2010 Medical Form. These must be on file for participants to take part in our activities. Forms do not need a doctors signature and can be completed by the parent or guardian. They can be mailed to you or can be downloaded by clicking here.
