The City of Altamonte Springs - Special Community Services and the Advisory Board for the Disabled, Inc. provide social and recreational activities at a minimal cost to the mentally and physically challenged population, ages 13 and up in Altamonte Springs and surrounding communities.

BALLROOM DANCE SHOWCASE

SP-BallroomJoin us as 27 dancers with special needs and their partners showcase their new beautiful talents. After only 8 weeks of training, the dancers are ready to perform different dance styles with grace, poise, and energy! 

 
Doors Open: 1PM, Show Time: 1:30PM - 2:30PM
Located at Lake Brantley South Gym
1010 Sand Lake Road, Altamonte Springs, Fl 32714.
Gymnasium is located across the street from LBHS. Enter into Forest City Elementary (2nd Light), park by the bus loop and follow sidewalk to the back gym on the right of the school. 

FREE with Donations Accepted

"TEACHERS IN ACTION" HOST HALLOWEEN PARTY
Saturday, October 30, 2010 
Teachers in Action with Person with Disabilities, a partnership between the University of Central Florida and UCP of Central Florida, is hosting its 2nd Annual Halloween Bash for children with special needs and YOU are invited!

The Halloween Bash takes place on Saturday, October 30, 11AM-3PM at the Loch Haven Park Neighborhood Center in downtown Orlando. This *free* event provides a safe and supportive venue for hundreds of children, youth, and adults with disabilities to come together as a community and enjoy a little seasonal fun with family and friends. The event is targeted to children with special needs, but it is open to all ages and abilities; no special invitation or RSVP is required. NIGHTBIRD DANCES
Friday, November 12- Decades Dance
Best of the 50's 60's 70s 80s
 
SP-dance50sThemed dances are held one Friday per month from 7-9pm. Refreshments are provided. Cost is $2 per participant and $1 per companion/family member/guest.

Prizes awarded for dance contest winners, costume contest winners & birthdays! If you have a group home or a large party, please call in advance and we will reserve your group a table(s).
 
 
NEW DANCES ON THE OTHER SIDE OF TOWN!
The Oviedo-Winter Springs Optimist Club and Oviedo Parks and Recreation now offer dancers on alternate evenings.
Next dance is November 19, 2010- Turkey Trot at Riverside Park in Oviedo. Please click here for more information.


S.T.O.P. TRIPS
 "Saturday Time Out for Parents"
STOP Trips take place one Saturday a month and are socially, physically and educationally beneficial field trips. Cost: $3 per person with lunch provided. *Feel free to send souvenir money for trips*

You must RSVP on the designated day a week prior to the trip by phone or email. Reservations are taken in the order received. Only one message is required. Space is limited. Please send your reservation to only: 407-571-8814 or

 Westmonte Park from 7:30-8:30pm
SP- Crafts"Thursday Night Outs" are held on Thursday evenings, excluding the 1st Thursday of the month. They are designed to allow participants to get together and just have some fun! Events are held at Westmonte Park and time has changed to 7:30-8:30pm. Cost: $1.00 with refreshments.

BOWLING PRACTICES
Every Monday Excluding Holidays 
Practice is held every Monday, excluding holidays, at the Altamonte AMF Lanes

 from 3-5pm. Cost will increase to $2 per game beginning on June 21, 2010. Scores are recorded throughout the year and trophies are awarded at the Banquet with participant's high score.

    Registration Closed. Upcoming Performances.  
     The Altamonte Sparklers are a group of more than 80 male and female cheerleaders with special needs who have been training and competing since 2005. Together the group has attended numerous community events and cheerleading competitions. They are run by the support of the City of Altamonte Springs, volunteer coaches, and generous donors. The Altamonte Sparklers are more than just a cheerleading squad; they are a group of inspirational athletes who have proven that anything is possible- if given the chance!

    The Special Community Services' office has been moved to a new building. It is still located at Eastmonte Park, but can be found in the building to the right of the park's entrance gate.

    Please make sure to turn in your 2010 Medical Form. These must be on file for participants to take part in our activities. Forms do not need a doctors signature and can be completed by the parent or guardian. They can be mailed to you or can be downloaded by clicking here.
